The Dot – Story and Art Project

The Kindergarten, Fifth and Sixth Level children this year are reading the story The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds. This is a story about creativity.

Children in Fifth and Sixth Level are hearing the story on a video, then reading the story aloud in class, taking turns to read the pages. Children in Kindergarten are hearing the story on a video, then making dot artwork. We are also reading the story out loud to the children.

Here is a video of the book:

For the art project, the children are using watercolor paints to create artwork made of colorful dots.

At the end of the project, all the dots made by the children will be made into a big mural for one of the school walls!

This video shows how to make dot art of your own, and celebrate International Dot Day, a holiday created by the author, Peter H. Reynolds, in celebration of creativity:

Here are photos and a video of our Dot Day art project:

Each student drew, painted and cut out his or her own dots.
The children were original and creative in the way they made their dots.
Then we assembled all the dots together!
